Our Story
The Grey Galah is a family business. We moved to Georgetown over a decade ago and instantly fell in love with the town, the local community, and the relaxed outback lifestyle.
In fact, we loved Georgetown so much we wanted to share the experience with others, and that’s how our beautiful bed and breakfast came to be.
Why Grey Galah? When you come to Georgetown you’ll soon see why. The iconic Australian cockatoos are hard to miss, feasting on the local ground seeds and travelling in impressive flocks of up to 1000 birds. Specifically, the Grey Galahs are the juveniles because, just like our bed and breakfast, we’re all young at heart.

See & Do
Here are a few of our favourite things to see and do while you are here:
Cool off
Spend a lazy afternoon in Georgetown’s FREE Swimming Pool. Collect tokens for the front gate from the Roadhouse or Council office on the main street.
Check out the TerrEstrial Centre
Home to the Unearth Etheridge Exhibition and the Ted Elliot Mineral Collection, this place is one of FNQ’s best-kept secrets and houses over 4,500 mineral specimens.
Visit the Water Tower
You can take a picnic dinner or a couple of drinks up to the Water Tower (at the edge of town towards Forsyath) and watch the sunset.
Sightseeing along the river
Do the Riverwalk Track around town and see how many different birds you can spot.
Get active
Check out the Sports Centre, play bowls, squash, or tennis, and use the FREE community gym upstairs.
For history buffs
Take a morning stroll around town and consider the history of the buildings you see. You can find plaques with snippets of local information located on the footpaths in front of most significant buildings.
